Hunua Falls is an excellent one-day run from Auckland that everyone should see sooner or later. Follow the concrete to Papakura, and then follow the signposts through to the Hunua Gorge. There are two falls to see on this trip, although most people go only as far as the first, which is just past the Gorge. The other trip, to the Black Lily Falls, could also be done in the same day. After going through the Gorge and running downhill, and rising again, take turn to the left where the Hunua Road goes sharp to the right. At bottom of clay road leave car and walk along narrow track to the falls. There is much more water in both falls than is usual for this time of the year.
