MAUI POMARE’S ROUTE
FRUIT CONTRACT RUMOUR DENIED PRIME MINISTER’S LETTER Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The Chamber of Commerce last evening received a letter from the Prime Minister In answer to its complaint, stating that the chamber was under a complete misapprehension in saying that a contract had been entered into by the Cook Islands Department for the supply of 4,500 cases of Samoan bananas to the South Island fruit brokers. Mr. A. H. Allen, the chairman, said it looked as though a definite contract had been entered into, but it seemed that shortly afterward control was transferred to another department. Thus the been able to abrogate it. Influence was being used, arid they had to fight it and let the Government know that they were determined to have the arranged itinerary of the Maui Pomare adhered to.
