LUCK OF THE GAME
Te Rapa apprentice, O. Melna.ly’s luck was dead out at Rotorua yesterday, and yet in one way he might have met with more severe injuries. When well into the straight in the Waimangu Stakes, Creina’s King, who was on the rails but net in a winning position, appeared to cross his legs and he fell. Lady Day following immediately behind, hurdled the fallen horse and its rider. The latter, O. Mclnaliy, was obviously badly Hurt, and he was quickly attended to, and ordered to the Rotorua hospital, where an examination revealed a fractured upper leg and other general injuries. In his fall the boy narrowly missed colliding with the rails. Mclnaliy had been engaged to ride Pompeius in the Rotorua Cup, two races later. Trainer P. Brady had to hunt up another jockey, and the promising Wairarapa lightweight, E. Burgess, scored the winning mount in the cup, in which he is to be credited with riding a skilful race.
