NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE
NO MORE APPOINTMENTS FOR A TIME £50,000 SPENT AT HOBSONVILLE Special, to THE SUE WELLINGTON, Today. No more appointments of officers to the New Zealand Air Force will be made this financial year. Extensions of the Air Force are understood to be contemplated, if the money is available; but budgeting for the next financial year, beginning on April 1, has not yet been begun. Whether or not the air arm is reinforced will depend upon how the Government decides to treat the general vote of the Defence Department, from which the expenditure for the New Zealand Flying Corps is drawn. During the past year the Air Force received about £60,000 of the defence vote, about £50,000 being spent on Hobsonville airdrome. If the personnel of the force is increased, it is likely that Christchurch will receive favourable consideration before anything else is done*.
