Jackson raised his arm in protest and both men then went n. Turner, however, got away better :han Jackson and won comfortably by live length, with Jackson four lengths n front of Tarrant. Haua was fairly Tell up in fourth place. Time, 10m 4Ss. Jackson’s protest was not upheld. Lightweight Maiden Fours, one mile —Petone. 1; Blenheim, 2; Arapawa, 3. Also started: Avon. Champion Pairs, 1* miles.—Hamilton No. 1 (Sandos and Bayly), 1: Star Cooke and Mullins), 2; Wairau'(Gibbons and Saunders), 3. Also started: Hamilton No. 2. Won by six inches. Time, 11m. This was another magni:cent race and taken in conjunction with the fours provided adequate evidence that rowing: this years is of a very high standard. Wairau took charge at the start, but-could not hold the lead long. Star drew level after ompleting a quarter of a mile and was a length in front at the half-mile. Wairau dropped back half a mile from home and left Hamilton No. 1 to issue a Stirling challenge. An epic struggle over the last half-mile ended in Hamilton raining the verdict by the smallest posable margain. Wairau was three or dour lengths further back. Junion Fours. 1£ miles.—Avon.
