ROAD TO WHITFORD

DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL POSSIBLE MAIN HIGHWAY J A new road access to Whitford was | urged by a deputation of Tauranga ratepayers which waited on the Manukau County Council yesterday. According to Captain White, the ratepayers in the district had suffered for years because o£,la-ck of proper access, and it was now felt that the time was ripe for the work to be started. The restrictions imposed by the Local Government Loans Board made the raising of money for the purpose very difficult, while no assistance -would be forthcoming from the Main Highways Board, as the new road was not of a sufficiently high standard to be declared a main highway. The subject will be further considered by the council, and the county engineer was instructed to prepare plans and an estimate of cost.
