ORDER OF THE BATH STOLEN Burglars entered Wroxton Abl the home of Lord North, near I bury. early one morning cently, says the London “D; Chronicle,” and. without arc ing the household, ransacked sev« rooms and took a large number family heirlooms and other treasured relics, including the insignia of the Order of the Bath. Miss Fitzgerald, granddaughter of Lord North, said that the thieves entered by breaking a window on the ground floor. “Nothing was noticed until this morning/’ she said, “when a housemaid tried to get into the library and found the door locked on the inside “She went to another door which leads from the dining-room, and then discovered that a window had been broken. A shutter had been bored through and forced open. “It seems that two persons were engaged on the burglary and that one entered the house.” Among the articles taken were: Various family miniatures, including one of a former Lord North, who was Prime Minister in his day, old jewelled watches, several old snuff-boxes, a cameo gold ring which belonged to Queen Caroline, valuable seals, historic medals, decorations, including the Order of the Bath (which belonged to General Sir John Doyle, an ancestor of Lord North), the Star of the Khedive of Egypt, and the Order of the Knights of Hanover, silver matchboxes, etc Lord North is 93 years of age and England's oldest peer. He is a godchild of Queen Adelaide, and inherited his title from his mother 45 years ago. The family is an old Cadiolic one.
