Byrd Expedition Hears a Talkie “LOVE PARADE” BROADCAST Through the co-operation of Amalgamated Wireless of Australia, Mr. J. W. Hicks, of Paramount, arranged for the broadcasting of the opening night of “The Love Parade.” Maurice Chevalier’s latest Paramount picture, on January 10, at the Prince Edward Theatre, Sydney, to the members of Rear-Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s South Pole expedition in the Antarctic. At the conclusion of the programme members of the expedition sent the following radiogram to the theatre in recognition of their receiving the broadcast: “As Paramount’s most Southern
representatives in Little America, Antarctic, we are pleased to report your fine broadcast of Paramount sound picture, ‘The Love Parade,’ enjoyed and greatly appreciated. This is first sound production received here. Admiral Byrd and the inhabitants of Little America join us in thanks for the programme and send best wishes. —Joseph Rucker and William Vanderveer, Paramount cameramen, Byrd’s Antarctic Expedition.”
