LIST OF ACCEPTORS

FIXTURE OPENS NEXT WEEK The Dargaville Racing Club’s summer fixture will be staged on Saturday, February 22 and Monday 24. The fields are useful, both in size and quality, and interesting sport should be witnessed. Following are the first day acceptances :

SriORT RACES RANDWICK WEAKNESS A six-furlong event for two-vear-cjlds on the programme of the Anniversary meeting at Randwick would probably add to its attraction, comments a Sydney writer. No two-year T old race of that distance is decided at Randwick until April. Yet in Victoria two-year-old racing over six furlongs begins in November. November might be too early for such a distance, but January certainly isn’t. Canterbury ran a, six-furlong two-year-old event at its meeting a fortnight ago, and it was a complete success. The recent five-and-a-half-furlong event was just long enough to enable a slow beginner in Whitewash to get going in time to win, but at six furlongs he would have won running away. There are two five-and-a-half-furlong races during the midsummer carnival, and another at the Anniversary meeting. Has Monopoly That at the latter meeting could with advantage be made six furlongs, and it would afford an idea of the staying capacity of the youngsters without too severely taxing them. Mr. Hunter White, by the way, has a monopoly of the staying two-year-olds so far this season. He won the six-furlong event at Canterbury with Roaring Roger, while another he bred and owns. Ready Roger, was third. Good Stayers The latest winner, Whitewash, gave a striking demonstration of stamina and determination in winning from the rear, and she promises to be good. All are by Roger de Busli, an importation by Hurry On, a noted stayer, and now one of England’s leading sires. So possibly the introduction of Roger de Busli’s stock will result in an era of the good stayers so badly needed on the Australian Turf. ASCOT GOLD CUP THE CONDITIONS It will interest sportsmen in the Southern Hemisphere who are looking forward to the racing career of Streplion 11. in England to know the conditions of the race for the Ascot Gold Cup. It will be run on June 19 over 2h miles. The trophy is valued at £soo*”, land the added money is £3,500, of which £7OO goes to the second horse and £ 300 to the third. Three-year-old colts and fillies carry 7st 71b, four-year-olds 9st; five years, six years and aged 9st 41b. Mares are allowed 31b. Among the horses that, with Streplion 11., will carry 9st 41b are Fairway, regarded as the best horse in England, Athford —Trigo’s brother— Law Suit, and Mont Clair. Thirteen horses are nominated from the Continent, including Palais Royal and Bubbles. Baron Oppenheim, who has engaged J. Munro for the season, is not represented, so possibly Mr. Sol Green may give the Australian jockey the mount on Strephon 11. If this horse starts in the Coronation Cup, 1-J miles, at Epsom, on June 5, he will carry 9st 61b.
