STOLE WHEN DRUNK

GAOL FOR OLD OFFENDER “He has been drinking heavily and he will steal from anyone to get money for liquor,” commented Chief-Detec-tive Hammond when William Kirk was charged at the Police Court this morning with theft. Kirk, a labourer, aged 56. was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. The charge was of stealing a pair of blankets valued at 15s yesterday from persons unknown. “Kirk doesn’t know where he stole the blankets and neither do we,” added the chfef-detective. “He has 60 or 70 previous convictions arid we don’t know what to do with him.”
