PARCELS TO OPOTIKI
DAILY SERVICE ARRANGED " From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Today. For many years, the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce, assisted by local bodies, has battled with the Postal Department in an endeavour to secure an Improvement in the parcel mail service from Auckland. For a lengthy period, parcels have been brought here by the weekly boat. Often as a result of bad weather, it has been a fortnight before the parcels reached their destination from Auckland. In some cases they were too late to be of any value. With the opening of the railway to Auckland through the Bay to Taneatua, other towns received improved service, with the exception of Opotikl.
Representations have at last borne fruit. In a letter to the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce Mr. G. McNamara states that authority Has now been given for the establishment of a daily parcel mail service between Taneatua and Opotiki. This means that Opotiki will now have a daily service from Auckland. The new service will prove an ; nesth mable boom to local traders and residents, and will result in improved trading between Opotiki and Auckland.
