CAFE CUSTOMERS ESCAPE IN KIMBERLEY FIRE
DAMAGE IS £500,000 Reed. 10.30 a.m. CAPETOWN. Thurs. KimbexTey presents a desolate appearance after a disastrous fire involving the loss of £500,000. Nine buildings, including a large drapery, the Theatre Royal and the Waldorf Cafe, were destroyed. The fire started at 11 o’clock at night in a shop, under the cafe, from which the staff and customers escaped in the nick of time. Torrents of water seemed ineffective.
