INDUSTRIAL COMMITTEE
SITTINGS TO BEGIN IN V*. MARCH vr l START AT DUNEDIN A The Parliamentary Committee which was *et up to investigate the secondary industries of the Dominion will start its operations in about six weeks’ time. The first sitting will be held at. Dunedin, after which the committee will work northward, ending at Auckland. The committee will consist of Mr. Harris. M.P., Mr. H. R. Jenkins, M P., Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and the Minister of the Department. Evidence will be taken at the four principal centres of New Zealand— Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland—but if anyone from any other part desires to give evidence he may do so by travelling to wherever the committee is sitting. Representative factories of all secondary industries in New Zealand will be visited by the committee, but evidence in all the four centres for all kinds of industries will not be taken.
For instance, evidence concerning the motor industry will probably be taken only in Wellington, and for the rope and twine industry only in Dunedin. This will prevent any unnecessary overlapping and waste of time.
It is expected that a huge amount of evidence wiil be recorded during the sittings of the committee. This "111 later be amalgamated in a report, and presented to the House of Representatives. probably during the next session of Parliament.
