WAITOMO CAVES

SURROUNDINGS IMPROVED

BETTER ROADS CONSTRUCTED From, Our Oxen Correspondent TE KUITI, Today. Users of the road between Hangatiki and the Waitomo Caves have been impressed with the marked improvement carried out on this highway during the past few months. The whole route has now a good smooth surface, and two deviations have been made in order to obviate sharp bends. Over a hundred casks of bitumen are now ready alongside the road, in preparation for the work of surfacing, which is to be undertaken very shortly. The trip from Te Kuiti to the caves can now be taken in comfort, the continuous use of the grader between Te Kuiti and Hangatiki ensuring a smooth surface all the way. Marked improvements have also been made to the approach to the Caves Hostel, this having now been levelled and permanently surfaced. The whole of the grounds have been tastefully laid out in lawns, flower beds and rose gardens. Asphalt tennis courts, providing for three playing areas, which are under construction close to the hostel on the easterly side, are expected to be completed in a few days' time. Bowling greens are to be constructed and will be ready for play about the end of the year. These additional attractions will tend to make the X\ aitomo Caves even more popular than at present.
