ROTORUA NOTES
Over 800 bowlers and visitors met in front of the tea kiosk in the Government Gardens on Wednesday evening to hear some of their number perform on the concert platform. . . This concert is organised annually and a collection is taken in aid of some charitable institution. The Municipal Band played from 7.30 to S o’clock. A splendid programme, arranged by Mr. C. G. Hodgson, was then given by the following; Mrs. R. D. Kelly, Miss Del Thompson. Miss Grace Montgomery, Mr. D. McLennan, Miss Anita Webster, Miss K. Hall, Mr. Alymer Painton, Mr. W. Constance, Mr. Angus. Mr. Plummer. Professor Maxwell Walker and, not least, Mr,. Edward Hill. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. McLennan, Miss M. McKenzie, Mr. Woolley and Mr. E. Shalfoon. Four nurses were in charge of the collection boxes, which were found to contain £27. The growth of noxious weeds was referred to at a meeting of the County Council on Wednesday. The following resolution was carried: “That the Government noxious weeds inspector’s attention be drawn to the serious spread of ragwort around the lake basin, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to t&e Minister of Lands.” The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, has intimated that it is essential that a musical directer be appointed in Rotorua to take charge of municipal entertainment schemes. His duties would be to organise open air and other concerts, including those by the Municipal Band. Arawa Symphony Orchestra, Maori concerts, for the entertainment of tourists.
