AUCKLAND SELECTS 80 MEN FOR POLICE
DEPARTURE FOR TRENTHAM After passing a strict medical examination, 80 young Aucklanders who have volunteered for the Samoa military police force, left by train last evening on their way to Trentham, where they will undergo training. Those who had volunteered at the Central Police Station were called up yesterday and after their good characters were established, were passed over to the Northern Command headquarters for further examination. All day yesterday, doctors were kept busy at the Drill Hall examining the men and testing their medical qualifications. Out of 150 volunteers. SO were chosen. Those volunteering at the police station later in the day were passed on to the military authorities, and shortly after 5 o'clock the Auckland quota had been selected. Though the minimum age specified was 22 and the maximum 32, most of the volunteers were very little more than the former age. No officers travelled with the draft, which was in charge of two sergeants of the Permanent Staff.
