GREAT CONTEST TO BE HELD AT HOKIA.NGA

MASON V. HADFIELD From Our Own Correspondent KOHUKOHU, Today. The New Zealand sculling championship, under Australian and New Zealand rules, will be rowed on Hokianga Harbour between James Mason, the present holder of the title, and Darcy Hadfield, ex-world’s champion, for the New Zealand championship title and a purse of £SOO, on Saturday, March 1. The race is creating considerable Interest throughout the North. Both competitors arrived and were received with great enthusiasm at the different centres during the week. In addition to the great event a local executive is arranging speedboat races, Maori canoe races, swimming events and a monster Maori hangi to commemorate the landing of the first canoe of Maoris at Hokianga.
