STRATFORD RAILWAY
COMPLETION FORECAST
FINISHED BY CHRISTMAS, 1931? Prom Our Own Correspondent TAUMARUNUI, Thursday. A forecast that the long delayed ending of the work on the OhuraStratford line might be reached by Christmas, 1931. was made by the district Public Works engineer. Mr. A. W. Albertson, yesterday. j Responding to the toast of the High- j l ways Board at a Chamber of Commerce ' | social to Taranaki business visitors, j Mr. Albertson mentioned that the line | would probably be completed soonei' than many people anticipated. Only a 20-mile gap existed at present, between Tangarakau and Ohura, and work was proceeding on that portion. The chief difficulty existed in tunnelling, which comprised 24 miles, with a total of eight tunnels. It was hoped to have five of these completed by March 31, 1931, and if the present rate of expenditure could be maintained the line should be through by Christmas, 1931.
