IMPORTATION OF STOCK

DANGER OF DISEASE From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Thursday. The danger of infection of foot and mouth disease from imported stock was stressed in a letter from the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Association, tabled at the meeting of the Waikato A. and P. Association executive committee today. The letter drew attention to the American importation of cattle from areas affected with foot and mouth disease and the passing on of the stock to New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay Association asked for support of the following motion: “That the attention of the Government be directed to the absurd situation of America importing cattle from the Channel Islands, passing same on to New Zealand without let or hindrance, and exploiting New Zealand breeders,* further urging that the importation of cattle, sheep and swine, etc., from the United States be prohibited.” After a brief discussion it was decided to support the motion.
