CRY FOR REVOLUTION
SPAIN NOW FACES NEW CRISIS
REPUBLIC’S BIRTHDAY | United. P.A. — By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, Wednesday. I The Madrid correspondent of the British United Press says the Prime Minister, General Damasco Berenguer, prohibited demonstrations, but permitted banquets to be held on the occasion of the celebration of the fifty-seventh anniversary of the first Spanish Republic. A thousand Republicans attended a banquet at the capital. The speeches were punctuated by cries of “Death to King Alfonso.” Senor Lerreux said the King was afraid to order a general election in view of his responsibility for the military disaster in Morocco in 1921. He added: “Do not be under any illusion. The only remaining path is a revolution.” General Berenguer held a conference with Senor Sanchez Guerra, the former Conservative Minister, who led the revolt at Valencia last year. The Madrid correspondent of the “Morning Post” expresses the opinion that Senor Guerra will play an important part in the formation of Spain’s next Government.
