MAMAKU BUSH ROAD

OBJECTION TO CLASSIFICATION That the reclassification of the road through the Mamaku Bush to Rotorua would result in increased upkeep costs is the contention of the Matamata County Council. A letter was received at last evening’s meeting of the A.A.A. objecting to the raising of the reclassification of the highway as a fourth-class road for pneumatic-tyred vehicles and a fifth-class road for solid-tyred lorries. It would entail heavier traffic on the county roads. Mr. M. H. Wynyard said he understood that the reclassification was for the summer months only and would be reconsidered during the winter. It was decided to write to the county council, pointing out that the classification would take effect during the summer months only.
