PAPAKURA INTERESTS
The annual general meeting of the Papakura Chamber of Commerce was held in the Broadway Tea Rooms lest evening. Mr. Alfred Willis, president, presiding. A recommendation from the executive to alter several rules was carried, including one making the town clerk an honorary member, and the immediate past president a member of the council. Mr. G. F. MacDonald. secretary, read the annual report, which gave the membership as 42, an increase of five members. Important improvements had been effected in the town and district which tho chamber had consistently advocated, namely, duplication of the railway line from Papatoetoe to Papakura, and the building of tha new courthouse. The alteration of the running of the morning workers’ train and the installation of a community lighting system had proved most successful innovations. Combined conferences had been l-eld during the year at Fukekolie and IVaiuku.
The provision for public baths, signposting of streets, disposal of rubbish and footpath improvement, were Questions to be considered in the ensuing year.
The following officers were elected: President. Mr. I-I. E. McKntea: vicepresidents. Messrs. W. A. Pavilt and IT. L. Thornton; members of the council, Messrs. H. Walters (Karaka). F. Lound and C. S. Beechey: secretary and treasurer. Mr. G. F. MacDonald; auditor. Mr. G. C. Hobson. A credit balance of JCI3 15s 8d was shown.
