ST. JAMES

“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY” Few programmes yet presented in Auckland have enjoyed such sustained popularity as that which has been enjoyed by “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” the Warner Brothers’ and Vitaphone all-talking and natural colour musical comedy, at St. James Theatre. Features of the film which are proving attractive are the wonderful colouring effects, the singing and dancing items which have been incorporated, and above all. the infectious humour which is the keynote of the story. The principal players are Winnie Lightner, Conway Tearle, Lilyan Tashman, Nick Lucas and Ann Pennington. The diverse supporting programme of short talkies includes an amusing comedy, “Realisation,” “Serpentine,” a novel dance by the Vitaphone Girls, and several enjoyable vocal and instrumental numbers.
