OTAIRI’S WANGANUI WIN

Democratic Beats Red Fuchsia

RACING was in progress at three centres today—Wanganui. Dunedin and Gisborne. Most interest was centred upon the fixture at Wanganui, where several Auckland horses were engaged. At Wanganui, the Stewards’ Handicap was won by Otairi from Count Palatine and Ruanui. H. Gray rode the winner, and he was also on the victor in the preceding event. As expected, Democratic beat Red Fuchsia in the Hurdles, the latter’s big weight proving too much for him.

WANGANUI, Today. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was held in delightfully sunny weather. The track was hard and fast and there was a large attendance. Leisure and Potoaform were on terms crossing the top, with Miss Cobham ahead of Coalbag, Valma and Pont D’Or. But it was evident the finish would lie between the two leaders, and although Leisure was actually lirst to straighten out, Potoaform beat her in the run to the post, there being thi Si parta of a length between them, with a gap of a length and a-half to Miss Cobham, with Valrnar fourth and then Corwen. Going into the back Otairi, Consent and Habit were* in line from Ruanui, Keddar, Joy Bird and Paitonu, and there was little change right to the turn, although Count Palatine had commenced to move. As they came across the top Otairi and Consent were ahead of Keddar and Habit, with Ruanui ahead of Count Palatine. Otairi turned for home ahead of Consent, with Ruanui clear of Count Palatine. The last named put in a challenge over the final pinch, but Otairi went on to win by a length and a-half from Count Palatine. Ruanui was half a length back, Paitonu fourth and Consent next.
