ITALIANS SCUFFLE ON SYDNEY STAIRS
MURDER AT RAILWAY L nited P.A. —By Telegraph—Copyright Heed. 9.10. a.m. SYDNEY. Today. A murder was committed in broad daylight on the stairs at the Newtown railw’ay station yesterday. A foreigner thrust a. large hunting knife deeply into the right breast of a companion, who collapsed and died without uttering a word. The victim w r as later identified as Dominico Belle, aged 32, an Italian, who is believed to be a recent arrival. The assailant left the weapon on the stairs and escaped. The spot where the crime was committed is one of the most populous in the suburb of Newtown. However, a remarkable feature of the case is that nobody saw the direction in which the murderer disappeared. A ticket clerk sold tickets to the victim and his compatriot. Both spoke like Italians. They had walked only a few paces when the clerk heard a scuffle and a groan and saw the younger of the two men fall to the ground. By the time the clerk had reached the scene of the crime the perpetrator had gone. The police have discovered no motive for the murder, but they expect to make an early arrest of the assassin.
