BRITAIN’S TRADE

SOUND POSITION ON WORLD MARKETS

DOMINION FIGURES Reed. 12.20 p.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The Imperial Economic Committee, m a memorandum on Empire trade just issued, says the external trade of the British Empire exceeds that of other large unit, such as the United States or the suggested united states of the Continent of Europe. Between 1913 and 1927 the trade of the Empire with the world advanced more rapidly than the world’s trade, yet with the exception of the British Malaya, every considerable part of the Empire found markets within the Empire for at least 40 per cent, of its total exports. In Canada and New Zealand, exports in 1927, as compared with 1913, were greater by 100 per cent, and 40 per cent, respectively. Australia’s expansion in that period was 10 per cent., and South Africa’s IS per cent.
