MEETING OF COUNCIL
' The monthly meeting; of the council cf the New Zealand Golf Association tvas held on Monday, when there were present: Mr. W. K. A. Gill (chairman), tfir Alexander Roberts, and Messrs. M. j. Crornbie. A. D. S. Duncan, W. A. Kiel**. L. O. H. Tripp, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). , The chief business ol the meeting was consideration of the team to represent New Zealand in the KirkWindeyer Cup matches at Shirley, Christchurch, on April 17. After consideration it was decided to select five players, from whom the team of four will be finally chosen before the day of the match. The live players chosen were: J. L. Rlack (Hamilton). T. PI. Horton (Master ton). Hr. K. Ross i Otago). A. H. S. Duncan (Wellington) and B. M. Macfarlane (Christchurch). The Christchurch Golf Club submitted a proof of the programme for its Easter tournament, which follows the Kirk-Windeyer Cup, and this was approved of. As no doubt most of the Australian visitors and many of the best New Zealand players will enter for the tournament, it should provide some very good golf. The sub-committee reported that arrangements are well in hand for the professionals’ autumn tournament at Kussley. Christchurch, on March 1, 3 and 4. and that entries arc alreadv coming in. The prize money, us in past years, will be £2OO, of which £SO is being given by the Hagley Golf Club (Kussley), and the remainder, from the association’s funds. The chief event is the Hagley professional championship, four rounds of stroke play, the prizes for which total £55. It was reported that a letter had been r. .reived from J. H. Kirkwood, but it did not indicate the proposed sailing date, but it was presumed that, in order to carry out their New Zealand programme, they will arrive at .Auckland on the Aorangi on Monday, February 24. The arrangement is that they play exhibition matches at Titiritngi (Auckland), bn February 25; at Miramar (Wellington), on the 26th, and at Shirley (Christchurch) on February 27. It was decided to offer John Lambie and T. Galloway re-engagements as association professionals on the same terms as last year. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews wrote confirming its cablegrams regarding the legalisation of steel shafted clubs, and the raising of the age limit to which a youth may act as a paid caddy without losing amateur status, from 10 to 18 years. Forthcoming tournaments were advised as under:—Professionals’ autumn tournament, Russley, Christchurch, March 1, 3 and 4: Kirk-Windeyer Cup, Shirley, April 16 and 17: Christchurch Ea3ter tournament. Shirley, April 19 to 26: Auckland provincial championship tournament, Hamilton, April 19, 21 and 22; Australian open, amateur and professional championships. Metropolitan links, Oakleigli, Melbourne, commencing on September 9.
