HOMECOMING

TIIE night is full of familiar sounds—the scurry of outdoor creatures seeking cover in deeper darkness, the whisper of the birch tree tlrat stands beside the Wigwam, the lap-lap of the questing waves on the shores of the Lake of Many Waters, and the crackle of twigs on the Wigwam fire that the faithful ones have tended in t.h& absence of their Chief. ’Tis sweet to seek new countries under a holiday moon, but sweeter far to return to loved and remembered places. Here great friendships have been sealed and things of worth discussed. Here the Totem Pole stands—that stout symbol of many seasons. Now the holidkj- moon Jpis wanedj. and the world of-every day lias claimed ns, bi t it would be a drab world if we could not east off the shackles of reality once in a while and steal down a magic trail in the moccasins of make-believe. As you take up your pens you become dusky warriors and dark-eyed maidens. You sign a pen-name, such as “Flying Arrow” or “Light of the Moon,” and with a new personality you enter the Wigwam. You tell Redfeather your secrets, secure in the knowledge that you have a staunch champion and friend, and here is Redfeather baqk at the Wigwam awaiting news of you all. There is a story competition to Interest our young writers, and the matter of Scout and Guide scribes for 1930 will receive earlv attention. • • - - REDFEATHER.

1 A SUBMARINE WORLD \ Ju«t lately I have been a mermaid. I -watch my legs, hoping - they will turn ! into a shining silver tail, but they | insist on remaining as they are. It , is really most annoying! The other day we went swimming l'rom the reef. It is wonderful out there. Under a shallow surface the locks sweep in a semi-circle—a dark -fringe under a blue sea. Sea-fdrns with fringed leaves cluster there, and, oh, thfey are lovely! We dive in from the reef, from the edge of the curving rocks, down, down into the depths of the blue, unknown sea-regions. Tiny air bubbles frisk to the surface, and foam in white flakes springs laughingly toward the clouds. Weird, mysterious crannies hide in the rocks, ferns shelter wondrous sea-folk, md fishes glide in and out. but with a i Hash of silver and a flick of the tall arc gone when an earth person clumsily enters their world. I love my land under the sea: it is full of so many interesting things—creeping sea-snails, coloured jellyfish. like dainty parasols, floating aimlessly, and so many things to worship. —Flying Cloud.
