WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
TE ATATU BRANCH The first meeting for the year of the Te Atatu Women’s Institute was held on Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church. Mrs. Chadwick presided over a good attendance of members, who spent a most enjoyable afternoon. The early part of the evening was devoted to business, being followed by a social tea. ALBANY BRANCH Feeling reference was made at the meeting of the Albany Women’s Institute last week to the death of the president, Mrs. Bruton. The following resolution was passed: “We desire to place on record our appreciation of the services rendered to the institute by Mrs. Bruton since its inception. She was its first president and. at the annual meeting was unanimously re-elected to the position. She took a keen and helpful interest in all its activities, and gave a never-failing support to all its efforts. The tact and kindliness with which she conducted the meetings contributed materially to their success. We feel that in her we have lost, not only a valued co-worker but also a personal friend, and that her place in our midst will he difficult to fill.” Several sub - committees were formed, and Mrs. Treby and Mrs. R. Stevenson were appointed delegates to the bi-annual conference. Mrs. Bartlett, of Birkdale, gave a very interesting demonstration in posy-mak-ing. The hostesses were Mesdames Kmgdon, Kenyon and Hunter. Tea concluded a pleasant afternoon.
