OFFICERS FOR SAMOA
TO ACCOMPANY MILITARY POLICE CAPT. WALES SELECTED Ten officers connected with the Defence Department have been selected to accompany the 300 military police, enlisted recently, to Samoa. According to information received from the Narrow Neck Camp, Captain J. G. C. Wales is one of the officers selected, while a major will be in charge of the contingent. When approached this morning the military authorities in the City refused to announce the names of any of the officers selected. R.S.A. MAKES PROTEST AGE-LIMIT CRITICISED The appointment of officers to accompany the Samoan Military Police has brought a protest from the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association. Members of the association understand that only officers of the permanent staff have been selected, while there are a number of returned officers and N.C.O.’s at present out of employment who could well have been appointed. The association also protests against the age-limit of the military police which, being 22 to 32 years, bans almost all of the returned men. Mr. Sharpe, secretary of the R.S.A., has been instructed to send telegrams of protest to the G.0.C., Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence.
