CAPRICIOUS PRINCESS
SENTRY KEPT SALUTING TILL EXHAUSTED
Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. THE ‘‘Daily Mail” says Princess Elizabeth, while playing in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, evaded her nurse, passed the redccated, bear-skinned Royal Guards sentry, who promptly presented arms.
The Princess enjoyed the salute, but was not sure whether it was coincidence, so she walked back. The sentry again saluted smacking his rifle sling smartly. The Princess decided this was a magnificent game, and repassed, receiving the honour and retracing her steps continually for 20 minutes. When the officer on the rounds arrived, he discovered the sentry exhausted. The officer hurried off and found the nurse, whose arrival and subsequent inducement to Princess Elizabeth to find another game alone prevented the guardsman’s complete collapse.
