PARTIES VISIT GULF RESORTS MANY STAFF EXCURSIONS Resorts in the Gulf were crowded with picnickers and visitors on Hdtuyday and during the week-end. Motuihi and Pine Island were the most favoured spots. POLICE AT PINE ISLAND The picturesque resort of Pine Island was popular with the police on SSundav when members of the city and suburban force enjoyed their annual outing, idle picnickers, numbering nearly -.000. were entertained with Highland daneing and athletic sports, while St. Andrew s Pipe Band, under Mr. Mccomoc, played a number of selections. Sports events were controlled by Inspedor Mcllveney and Inspector Hollis, and Constable Edwards, as judges. Ueteetive-Sergeant McKlugh as handicapper, and Constable Eoel, as starter. OUTING AT MOTUIHI An enjoyable outing at Motuihi Island was spent by the staff of the Umty Press and their friends, on Saturday. The excursionists, numbering about 200, spent an interesting day in swimming, water polo and field sports, which were controlled by Mr. J. Crawford and Mr. S. Learning. A special cup for the best all-round althete, presented by the manager, Mr. Humphreys, was won by Mr. Baxter. Results of events are as under:

More than 3.000 employees and friends of the Auckland Gas Company attended the annual picnic at Pine Island on Saturday. A feature of the outing was the excellent entertainment organised for children. Dance music was provided on the steamer and at the pavilion by Mr. Walter Smith’s band. The president and secretary ol the picnic committee, Messrs. G. Gwilliam and Brighton were largely responsible for the success of the outing. Cheers for the directors brought an enjoyable outing to a close. Results ol sports events are as under: Employees’ wives’ competition: Mrs. Bve, 1. Women’s nail-driving event: Mrs. tVheeler, 1; Mrs. Burke, 2. Other prizewinners were: Miss E. Little and Messrs. H. Young, D. Moore, A. Bell and Ruby. MOTUIHI PICNIC The employees and friends of L. D. Nathan, Ltd., numbering about 300, made the trip to Motuihi on the Kiwi on Saturday, where thej' - held their annual picnic. The children were well catered for in toys, lollies and ice creams. PONSONBY CLUB’S PICNIC About 500 people attended the annual picnic of the Ponsonby Cruising Club, held at Motutapu on Sunday. An enjoyable time was spent, swimming and sports proving very popular. The prize for finding Mr. Po Cru Clu was won by Miss E. Davis, of Jervois Road, and the hidden treasure hunt was won by Miss Mack, of Remnera.
