KITCHEN EVENING
GIFTS TO MISS P. CARLEY The Ngarua Hall was the scene of a happy function on Thursday, when residents of the district gave a “kitchen evening” for Miss Phyllis Carley, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Carley, of Te Aroha, whose marriage, to Mr. J. Bigwood is to take place at Te Aroha on Wednesday. The function was attended by about 100 residents of Ngarua and the surrounding district. During the evening, Mr. Carter, on behalf of the residents, presented Miss Carley with a collection of kitchen utensils as a mark of esteem, and expressed the affection in which the guest of the evening was held throughout the district. Mr. Bigwood suitably responded on behalf of Miss Carley.
Dancing was continued until the early hours of the morning. A dainty supper was provided, and the evening concluded with the s_inging of “Auld Lang Syne.”
