NIGHT ON LAUNCH
ESCAPEES FROM PARNELL GIRLS’ HOME COMPANIONS FINED £5 Entertaining two girls who had -escaped from the Parnell Girl*’ Home, on a launch that did not belong to them, cost William Morrison and John Francis Sherry £5 each at the Police Court this morning. Morriaop. a labourer, aged 27, and Sherry, a farmhand, aged 25, pleaded guilty to being found without lawful excuse on a launch belonging to George Hyde. They were arrested this morning by Constables O'Sullivan and Mathieson. According to the charge-sheet, the two accused had £1 14s lOd between them, Morrison’s contribution to the common 'fund being one penny. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady said three girls had escaped from the Home two or three days ago. Last night the two accused- had been riding round town with, them in a taxi. They had spent most of the night with two of them in a launch. The other girl had remained in the taxi. Sherry had not been before the court for five years, but Morrison had been twice convicted last year on charges of being disorderly while drunk.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposed fines of £5, in default 14 days’ imprisonment.
