Hatton Wants A Fight Matt Hatton. who is engaged in farming at Awhitu. has been visiting Auckland during the last few davs. He has been training, and this with the open all* life, has put him in wonderful condition. Hatton would like to have a return contest with Donovan and would not say no to a light with Sarron. But he would like a contest before mixing gloves with the American.

Leckie Out for Three Months The fight between Johnny Leckie and Grime at Wanganui has been cancelled, the feather-weight champion having been ordered by the doctor not to fight again for three months. Leckie went in to fight Sarron at Wellington last week with an injured nose and he paid the price. Misfortune has dogged his footsteps since his trip to Australia. Lou Bloom, the American light-weight has been substituted to fight Grime.

Offer to Haines Billy Thomas, who had two fights in Auckland for two wins, is back in Australia and has backing for a fight with Jack Haines, the middle-weight champion who is looked upon as Australia’s best fight prospect in years. Incidentally, Haines is reported by an Australian paper to have been offered .£250 for a contest with Artie Hay at Wellington. Either the report is wrong or the Wellington association lias gone beyond its powers, as Haines, if lie came to Hew Zealand, would only fight for a £2OO purse. He could get £4O expenses and that with the winning end of the purse would only amount to £l6O.

Stabilising Purses The Sydney “Referee” states that rules have been formed for the Sydney Stadium, making all bouts of three minutes’ duration for both preliminary and main contests. Boxers in preliminary bouts will be paid at set rate, as in the majority of the American States, where the Boxing Commissions set the rate a round: Four-round contest, winner £3 and loser £2 10s; six rounds, winner £4 10s, loser £4; ten rounds, winner £6 15s, loser £5 15s; and 12 rounds, winner £ls, and loser £ls.

Ridiculous Fuss Writes our Taranaki correspondent: Faced with the prospect of an enormous gate for the Donovan-Sarron bout on Saturday, the Taranaki Boxing Association has decided to stage the fight in Western Park in the afternoon. There has been a tremendous fuss made about this fight and the only excuse is that it is the best fight prospect at the present time. In more prosperous times the bout would have only occasioned passing interest, but now it is being boosted to the skies. In fact, the boosting has been carried to the ridiculous. Anybody would think it was a world championship affair instead of only a good drawing card. SHARKEY TOO ROUGH COOK LEAVES TRAINING SCHOOL NEW YORK, Sunday. A message from Miami, Florida, states that George Cook, the Australian boxer, who ha 3 been acting as sparring partner to Jack Sharkey, has left there. He said Sharkey had been treating him too roughly. Officials indicate that they will substitute Johnny Groso for Cook to box Bianchi in the preliminary to the Sharkey-Scott contest on February 27.
