THE BOXIMG RING

Fixtures Grime v. Bloom, Wanganui, February 13. Morgan v. Trowern, Gisborne, February 14. Sarron v. Donovan, New Plymouth, February 15. Jones v. Leslie, Hawera, February 21. Hay v, Macdonald, Palmerston North, February 21. Boxing in Australia is drawing very poor houses, only £6O being paid at the gates recently to see a championship affair and £SO for another important fight. Tho bout between Jones and Leslie has been postponed until February 21. Leslie is training in Auckland and will probably act as sparring partner to Lachie Macdonald* who is training at the Central Fire Station. * * *■ After being battered for eight rounds by Tommy Cribb at the Wollongong Stadium recently, Hughie Dwyer, retired light-weight champion of Australia collapsed in his corner and could not come up for the ninth round. This was Dwyer’s attempt to make a come-back to pugilistic eminence. * * * Macdonald Gets His Chance Ac Palmerston North on February 21, Lachie McDonald will have his chance to get back into the front rank. On that date he will fight Artie Hay for tho middle-weight championship and will have a chance to revenge the defeat he suffered at Hay’s hands at Auckland last September in a bout for the vacant middle-weight championship. In his fight with Thomas last month, Macdonald showed greatly Improved form and he should be in good “nick” by tire 21st.

Pladner Fouls Again Teddy Baldock, England’s claimant for the bantam-weight championship of the world, defeated Emile Pladner, ex-fly-weight champion of the world, on a foul in six rounds last month. This was the second time within a short period that Pladner had lost on a foul in important contests. The first occasion was when he lost on a foul to Frankie Genaro in a return contest for the championship.
