PAWNSHOP ROBBED
JEWELLERY WORTH £2OO STOLEN AUDACIOUS THEFT Jewellery to the value of about £2OO, together with small articles, was stolen from Robinson’s pawnshop, Upper Queeh Street, during the weekend. Entry is said to have been gained by means of a glass door at the side of the shop, which leads to offices on the top floor. Doors in the basement were also forced and four rooms were entered, though nothing was taken.
One of the occupants of the offices is thought to have left the glass door open on Saturday. An iron grille had to be climbed over by the thieves before they could enter the main door. The pawnshop was entered by the back door, which is fitted with burg-lar-proof double locks, which could not be forced. The burglars bored more than 50 holes in one of the panels and smashed out a square through which they climbed. Then they had to break a big panel of 22-guage iron, which they hacked through with a pair of snippers. A showcase full of jewellery was rifled and aJso a window facing onto Queen Street. The safe was untouched.
It is thought that the burglars worked all day Sunday on the job. The loss is estimated at about £2OO.
