WILKINS'S FEARS
FOREBODING LETTER TO RELATIVE
SEARCHERS DISCOURAGED United I'. A.—By Telegraph—Copyright ADELAIDE, Sunday. Sir Hubert Wilkins, with whom it has not been ossible to get into wireless communication in the Antarctic for more than a week, realised the hazards to be faced there. The explorer made a startling appeal in a letter to his brother, a resident of ingSouth Australia, to dlcourage the sending of a rescue party if ho were reported missing Sir Hubert, sa-.d he did not desire other men to lose their lives searching for him. His letter said inter alia: "You may not hear from me for 12 months, so do not give up hope. If nothing is heard after ths.t time you will know I am lost and it will be too late to send rescuers. “I have fine fellows with me and a good airplane. The only danger I rea - ls the wheels stopping if I am forced down. X am carrying every conceivable thing for our safety and for helping us to get back overland.”
