ST. JAMES
“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY”
A new conception of the wonderful possibilities opened by the introduction of natural colour in motion pictures is afforded by “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” spectacular Warner Brothers and Vitaphone all-talking production still continuing its exceptionally popular season at St. James Theatre.
The picture has been photographed by the technicolour process, and is a great improvement oil anything of this nature hitherto attempted, the many gorgeously tinted scenes which follow one another in quick succession forming a brilliant setting for the story. The reproduction of the sound and dialogue is no less effective, the clarity being a notable feature. Winnie Lightner, in a vivacious part, heads a strong cast, other players in prominent roles being Conway Tearle, Helen Foster, and Nick Lucas, “the crooning troubadour.”
There is an excellent programme of supporting pictures and music, which includes an overture, “Orpheus” (Offenbach) by the Vitaphone Symphony Orchestra, and a clever Yiddish comedy.
