Burglars Visit Drapers During the week-end thieves entered the drapery establishment of Hays, Ltd., in Gloucester Street, Christchurch, and stole clothing valued at £ 50.
Drove Without Licence When John Cecil Morgan was learning to drive a motor-truck he crashed into a telegraph pole on the Auckland Road, Onehunga recently. He did not have a licence, and today, Mr. F. H. Leyien, S.M., fined him 20s and costs.
Coroner Praises Swimmers Referring to the distressing circumstances surrounding the drowning of the little boy, William Robert Herr, at St. Hilda, Dunedin, on February 6, the coroner, Mr. J. K. Bartholomew, S.M., specially commended the act of Arthur Moore and Rangi Wootton in swimming out for the body without a life line.—P.A. * * * Illegally on Premises Caught on the premises of the Manukas Hotel after hours, James H. Dean and Noel R. Brennan were fined 20s and costs each in the Onehunga Police Court this morning by Mr. F. 11. Levien. According to Sergeant O’Neill he heard voices in the hotel yard at 11 o’clock on a recent night and found the two men there. The licensee said one of them had been knocking at the door for some time.
Cheeky Motorist Drivng without tail-lights cost Alfred S. Harriman and Neville B. Andrew 10s and costs each in the Onehunga Police Court today. Harry Bowrey, aged 19, was fined £2 and costs for negligent driving. According to the police, Bowrey had been acting the fool and showing off in Queen Street, endangering a number of people. The driver had given * lot o t «heek wben arrested.
