VAN DRIVER ON TRIAL

NEGLIGENT DRIVING ALLEGED

DEATH OF PEDESTRIAN Negligent driving, causing death, was alleged against William David Weller, a butcher, who stood his second trial in the Supreme Court today. The charge arose out of the death of Samuel Leathern, who, when alighting from a tram on New North Road on the night of July 24, was killed through being struck by a motor-van driven by Weller. A disagreement resulted at accused’s first trial last session. Mr. Hubble prosecuted and Mr. Northcroft defended the accused. The accident occurred at the tram stop at the corner of New North Road and Salisbury Road on a W'et evening. (Proceeding.)
