GUATEMALA WELCOMES “THE COLONEL.”—FIores, situated on a tiny island in Lake Peten, is an outpost town of the Central American Republic of Guatemala. When Colonel and Mrs. Lindbergh landed at this spot, following their interesting tour over the Maya country, the Governor, in a launch, and the whole population in dug-out canoes, came out to greet the plane. Beyond the town of Flores are the ruins of Tayasal, the last refuge of the Maya after the Spanish conquest. —Photograph released through the courtesy of the Carnegie Institute.
