POPULATION NOW REACHES 1,545,130
59,536 IN DEPENDENCIES Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The return of the estimated population of New Zealand, with its dependencies and mandated territory, wa3 published in the Gazette last night. It shows the number of males to be 789,382, females 755,748, totalling 1,545,130 in all. The estimated population of New Zealand proper on December 31, 1929. (excluding Maoris) was 723,693 males and 695,239 females. The estimated Maori population was 34.509 males and 31,853 females. The population of the North Island was estimated at 952,584, including 63.733 Maoris, and of the South Island 533,010, including 2,929 Maoris. The estimated population of the Cook Islands, Niue, etc., was 14,451. of the Tokelau Islands, 999, and of Western Samoa, 41,086.
