TE AROHA NOTES
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Spence, highly respected settlers of Mangaiti for the past 17 years, who are leaving for the Gisborne district in a few days, were given a farewell by a large assemblage of friends on Tuesday evening. Mr. J. Shallue, on behalf of the settlers, spoke of the good qualities of both Mr. and Mrs. Spence, and of the former’s connection with the Waihou Polo Club, of which he had undoubtedly been one of the mainstavs both as a player and umpire. Mrs. Spence was presented with a travelling rug, Mr. Spence with a well-filled wallet of notes, and Mr. Selbie Spence with a fountain pen. On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Spence received a presentation of a set of crystalware at the residence of Mrs. G. F. Ranby. Ruakaka, from a large number of women friends who had assembled.
The Elstow Drainage Board has given the necessary authority to the Minister of Lands to lift the £5.000 subsidy for the Elston-Awaite district.
