75 YEARS OLD
HON. L. M. ISITT’S BIRTHDAY
MEETING IN WELLINGTON Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. A gathering held in Wellington to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Hon. L. m. Isitt was largely attended by his friends from all parts of the Dominion. The Rev. E. D. Patchett presided and spoke of Mr. Isitt as one of the foremost moral reformers of the day. He extolled his strength of character, courage and eloquence. Sometimes their heroes, on closer inspection, had feet of clay, but he had found that an increasingly Intimate acquaintance with Mr. Isitt had led to an ever-growing esteem for him. Suitable presentations were made to Mr. Isitt and to Mrs. Isitt, who had shared his burdens so loyally. Mr. Isitt, in the course of his reply, said: “It Is the realisation that thousands of boys and girls are growing up with no thought of God and no knowledge of Christ that has made me so keen to end the secular system of education, which has done untold harm to this country.”
He thanked the gathering for its line tribute, but most of all for their remembrance of his wife who, an invalid at home, had yet been his inspiration and helper for many long years.
