TAURANGA NOTES
More than 100 business and professional men assembled at the Ritz on Tuesday evening to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Chamber of Commerce by holding a smoke concert. Mr. F. N. Christian, president, presided. A long list of toasts was honoured, interspersed by musical items. It was stated that, tho activities of the chamber had been carried on throughout the 25 years without a break, and much good and permanent work had been accomplished. This •was considered a record for a country town.
Mr. C. E. Macmillan. M.P., responding to the toast of “Farming Interests,” quoted figures showing that this district compared more than, favourably with other districts as to results from agricultural industries.
The Tauxanga Defence Club’s shoot for the Floyd Championship Belt series resulted: C. J. Kiddie, 90: H. Oliver, 90; and B. Johnston, 8(5. There were eight competitors. There are two competitions to Ixe held. So far the leading is H. Oliver. 348: B. Johnston, 342; and H. P. Ward, 338.
A public meeting was held to nominate members for the Tauranga Domain Board. Mr. Sha:.'p. chairman of the board, presided. It was decided to increase the number of members from live to seven. On the motion of the chairman, the Mayor of Tauranga is to be ox officio a member of the board. The following were nominated: Messrs. C. Whiting. D. Ivory, L. Norris. J. Neal, A- E. Newsliam, and S. Pemberton. Votes of thanks were given to Messrs. Sharp, Teasey. and J. A. McKenzie, retiring members of the board.
