TWO WOMEN DROWNED

ATTEMPT TO SAVE CHILD

TRAGEDY NEAR STRATFORD Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Two women were drowned at Makahu, near Stratford, this evening. They were Mrs. A. F. Yarrall and her sister, jaiss E. I. Renai. Mr. Y'arrall was visiting another farm, and the two women took the two Yarrall children, aged five years and seven years, for a swim in the river.

One child got into difficulties and Miss Renai went to its assistance. She also was soon in trouble, and Mrs. A’arrall plunged in, both women being drowned. The story was gathered from the two children who were waiting at home in a very distressed condition when the father returned. Both bodies have been recovered.
