SWIMMER KILLED
DIVES AND HITS ROCKS
FATALITY NEAR KAIHU From Our Own Correspondent DARGAVILLE, Today. Fatal injuries were received by Mr. Norman Fitzhenry, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Fitzhenry, of Mangawhare, when he dived into a swimimng pool and struck his head on a rock. Mr. Fitzhenry attented a picnic at Picnic Island, near Kaihu yesterday. While divi d in the swimming pool he struck sharp rocks at the bottom and failed to come to the surface. Other swimmers waiting fop him to rise saw blood rise, and promptly rescued Mr. Fitzhenry, who was found suffering from severe concussion and a gash in tho head, and possibly injuries to the spine. After medical attention he was removed to the Northern Wairoa Hospital at Te Kopuru in a serious condition, and he died this morning. Mr. Fitzhenry was the second son of Mr. El. Fitzhenry and only completed his apprenticeship as a baker’s assistant on the day of the accident. He was very popular in the district. He was a permanent member of the North Auckland Regimental Band.
