The figures of the Irish Free State census, which have just been issued, reveal that the country possesses the world’s highest percentage of bachelors, and also a marked tendency to late marriages. Between the ages of 20 and 30, the percentage of bachelors is 80; between 30 and 35 years, 62. The next highest known percentage ot bachelors is in Sweden, where the comparative figure between 25 and 30 years is 64. The corresponding figure for England and Wales is 45, for America 35. The returns also show that one out of every four women who remain in the Free State never marries.
