SEWAGE NUISANCE
HOBSON BAY FORESHORE HEALTH OFFICER COMPLAINS Owing to an overflow of sewage from the Newmarket sewer running down a creek and getting among the mangroves, a nuisance has been caused on the Hobson Bay foreshore. A complaint was made by the medical officer of health, Auckland, to the Harbour Board at yesterday’s meeting. He asked that the mangroves should be cut as low as possible. The engineer reported that he had arranged with the City engineer to carry out repair work, which would make the cutting of the mangroves unnecessary. In any case, he thought the cutting down should be done by the City Council if it had to be done. The chairman. Mr. M. H. Wynyard, said both the City engineer and the Newmarket: Borough Council were investigating. It was decided to reply in terms of the engineer’s report. The usual donation of £25 was voted to the funds of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta. The Railway Department advised that it desired to acquire a small area of land at Campbell’s Point for improving the entrance to the locomotive depot, and asked if tile board would raise any objections. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee to report to the board-in-com-mittee.
